CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) - Southern Illinois authorities are searching for an 18-year-old student after a shooting near a Carbondale alternative high school.

Monday’s shooting near a parking lot entrance at the Rebound school left the father of a student with “potentially life-threatening” injuries.

Authorities say a 17-year-old is in custody in connection with the shooting that happened around noon. They’re looking for the older teenager, who’s wanted on an arrest warrant for attempted murder and weapons charges.

Police say the shooting took place following a fight “between acquaintances.” It prompted a three-hour lockdown at the school that has several dozen students. A one-hour lockdown was issued for Carbondale Community High School, two miles away.

Superintendent Stephen Murphy says extra police are at the alternative school Tuesday and classes resumed Tuesday “without incident.”
