BATAVIA, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a Bed, Bath & Beyond store has sustained extensive damage in a fire that posed challenges for firefighters after water hydrants froze in the bitter cold conditions.

Fire officials tell local media that the fire was reported around 4:15 p.m. Monday at the store in a shopping plaza in the town of Batavia, midway between Rochester and Buffalo.

Officials say fire crews doused the flames in about 10 minutes but had difficult seeing inside the store because of heavy smoke. The blaze began in the area of the store where bedding and linens are sold.

The single-digit temperatures froze the hydrants in the plaza’s parking lot and behind the store.

No one was injured.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
