PHOENIX (AP) - A police officer stopped a vehicle driving on the median of a clogged freeway in west Phoenix during the Tuesday morning commute.

The state Department of Public Safety says that’s when the Goodyear Police Department officer discovered the vehicle’s driver was trying to get a pregnant neighbor who was in labor to a hospital.

DPS spokesmen say the Goodyear officer contacted paramedics and the Highway Patrol. The Phoenix Fire Department then transported the still-pregnant woman to the hospital.

Fire Capt. Tony Muir says medical privacy requirements prevent him from providing further information about the pregnant woman.
