PLANT CITY, Fla. (AP) - A Tampa Bay area police chief has been fired for what Plant City officials say are multiple code of conduct violations.

City Manager Greg Horwedel said Tuesday that 45-year-old Steven Singletary was engaging in an extramarital affair on city time.

An investigation found that Singletary, who is married, has had a relationship with another woman for the past three years. The woman’s husband recently caught her and Singletary together at an Orlando restaurant, took photographs and complained to the city. Singletary was reportedly in Orlando for a police chief’s conference.

Horwedel explained the Singletary was not fired for the affair but for spending time with the woman when he was supposed to be working.

Singletary had served as interim chief and then chief since December 2012. He had previously been with the department since 1996.
