AUBURN, Maine (AP) - An Auburn woman has been sentenced to serve eight months behind bars after pleading guilty to stealing more than $120,000 from her former employer.

Prosecutors say 53-year-old Candice Campbell stole the money from Greene-based food wholesaler Town & Country Foods.

She was sentenced Tuesday in Androscoggin County Superior Court to serve eight months of a six-year sentence, followed by three years of probation. She was also ordered to pay more than $121,000 in restitution.

She pleaded guilty in September.

The owner of the business that supplies schools, hospitals, restaurants and others tells the Sun Journal (https://bit.ly/1hMcl2u ) that Campbell was responsible for handling cash receipts for years and the amount of money taken may have been much higher.

Campbell’s lawyer said his client regretted her actions.
