CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - Former University of Wyoming rodeo coach and longtime stock contractor Pete Burns has died.

The 85-year-old died at his home in Laramie on Saturday.

Burns led the rodeo program from 1983 to 1996, leading the Cowboys and Cowgirls to a total of three national championships and 15 Central Rocky Mountain Region titles.

The Casper Star-Tribune (https://bit.ly/1fbZzbs) reports that Burns‘ rodeo company was noted for its bull breeding and produced the 1986 Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association Bull of the Year. Named Mr. T, the black-and-white bull was named the top bull at the National Final Rodeo twice.

A memorial service is planned for Feb. 8 at the Albany County Fairgrounds.
