ATLANTA (AP) - Many government offices and school districts throughout the state will be closed Thursday as the region regroups from a winter storm.

Gov. Nathan Deal said Wednesday that state offices would remain closed as state transportation crews continued removing disabled and abandoned vehicles from roads that became snarled with traffic after hours of snowfall Tuesday.

State transportation and emergency response officials have urged drivers to stay off roads and interstates. National Weather Service forecasters have warned that temperatures will remain below freezing overnight, creating slick conditions on roads throughout the state.

School district closures that had been announced by Wednesday afternoon spanned an area between Whitfield County in northwest Georgia to Lowndes and Chatham counties - more than 300 miles away in south and coastal Georgia.
