NEWCASTLE, England (AP) - Newcastle has made its first significant recruit of the January transfer window, signing Borussia Monchengladbach striker Luuk de Jong on loan for the rest of the season.

The 23-year-old Dutch international completed the move on Wednesday after undergoing a medical at the Premier League club, which has an option to make the deal permanent in the summer.

De Jong said “Newcastle is a great club and I have a good feeling about it. I am very impressed with the stadium and training ground and have been made to feel very welcome by everyone I have met.”

His arrival was announced after Newcastle sold France midfielder Yohan Cabaye to big spender Paris Saint-Germain.
