WINONA LAKES, Pa. (AP) - An eastern Pennsylvania hotel and convention center has abruptly closed, but officials say it will be redeveloped and they hope to reopen for the summer.

Fernwood Hotel and Convention Center spokesman Steve Ertle said guests were transferred to other locations Monday and Tuesday and events have been rebooked at other sites.

The closure affects the 127-room hotel, restaurants and convention center but not the snow tubing site, golf course and time-share residential complex, which are owned by Bushkill Group.

Company president Jim Ertle told The Pocono Record (https://bit.ly/1iaeXYQ ) that the renovation will include updating the electrical and heating systems.

He said the configuration will be similar to the current layout. The long-vacant original hotel will be demolished.

Officials say only five to 10 of the 67 employees remain employed.
