LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. (AP) - The founding pastor of an Orange County megachurch was among three people hurt when their power boat crashed at Arrow Point on Santa Catalina Island earlier this week.

The Orange County Register reports (https://bit.ly/1jOeMp0) Pastor Bayless Conley of Cottonwood Church is recovering from surgery for injuries sustained in Monday night’s accident.

Conley and another person were critically injured, while the third suffered minor injuries.

Authorities say the 22-foot Glacier Bay catamaran boat slammed head-on into the sheer cliffs that are common on the island’s north side near Isthmus Cove.

The newspaper says the cause of the crash was classified as operator error

Conley leads Cottonwood, a Los Alamitos megachurch with a 7,000-seat auditorium, along with his wife.

Parishioners dedicated Wednesday’s prayer service to Conley.
