SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - Police say a 19-year-old man has been shot after an apparent home invasion in Springfield.

Police say they responded to a Cambridge Street home just after midnight Friday where they encountered a man who was shot in the buttocks.

The victim told police he was inside when he heard a knock at his door. When he opened it, two masked and armed people rushed inside and demanded the victim’s “stuff.”

A fight broke out inside the apartment and the victim was shot. The intruders fled the apartment with the wounded victim giving chase down the street.

No names were released and there was no word on arrests.

The victim denied dealing drugs and is expected to survive.

Early reports of a second possible victim appear unfounded.
