BROOKFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - An 82-year-old woman and a 44-year-old man have been charged after three dogs were found dead in a large trash bin behind an Eaton County business.

WILX-TV and the Lansing State Journal report Friday that Diane Willis is charged with abandoning and cruelty to an animal, while Sonny Rounds is charged with improper burial of an animal.

Prosecutors say Willis pleaded not guilty at her arraignment Friday. Rounds faces an April 3 sentencing after pleading guilty.

Police were told the dogs’ bodies were placed in the bin because the ground was too frozen to bury them. They were found Jan. 12 near Charlotte, southwest of Lansing.

Authorities investigating that case later removed 15 dogs, six cats, three rabbits and a large number of birds from Willis‘ Brookfield Township home.
