ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say two men are recovering from injuries suffered when a halon tank exploded while they were removing it at the Harriman State Office Campus in Albany.

State police say the men were attempting to move the tank at Building 12 when the tank’s stem fractured around 8 p.m. Thursday, causing the halo to escape.

Troopers say both men suffered chemical burns to the legs, and one of the men suffered a fractured leg. Both were treated at Albany Medical Center Hospital.

Albany fire officials say halon is an outdated extinguishing agent used in computer rooms. They say tank that exploded was obsolete and hadn’t been used in years.

The cause of the explosion is being investigated.
