BOSTON (AP) - One of New England’s great college football rivalries is being renewed after a hiatus of more than three decades.
Boston College and Holy Cross announced Friday that they have agreed to play two games to be held in 2018 and 2020. Both will be at Boston College.
The Jesuit schools played 82 times from 1896 until the series ended in 1986.
The series was discontinued as the programs headed in different directions - Boston College into the national elite and Holy Cross to the academic-minded Patriot League and the NCAA Division 1-AA level, now the Football Championship Subdivision.
The Eagles lead the series 48-31-3, including a 56-26 victory over the Crusaders in the last game.
