OSWEGO, Ill. (AP) - The wife of an Illinois state trooper severely injured in an accident that killed a tollway worker is thanking the public for the outpouring of support for her family.

Illinois tollway maintenance worker Vincent Petrella was killed and Trooper Douglas Balder was injured when a truck driven by Renato Velasquez plowed into a squad car on Interstate-88 near Aurora. Velasquez is charged with operating a commercial motor vehicle while impaired or fatigued and making a false report of record and duty status. He is being held in lieu of $150,000 bond.

In a statement Thursday, Kim Balder expressed her gratitude for well wishes expressed by members of the Illinois State Police and the public. She also expressed sympathy for Petrella’s family.
