GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - A lawsuit filed in federal court accuses Wiggins police of assaulting a Perkinston man after he was found guilty of a misdemeanor in Wiggins Municipal Court.

Jack Ronald Smith Jr. seeks unspecified damages from an incident Jan. 22, 2013, when he allegedly suffered a traumatic brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder, blurred vision and other injuries at the court.

His attorney, Jim Halliday, says Smith’s right arm and shoulder are partially paralyzed from a work injury, and he was wearing a sling at the time of the trial.

Attorney Rebecca Taylor, who represents the city, tells The Sun Herald (https://bit.ly/1bcnB3Z ) she has not seen the lawsuit and could not comment on it.
