SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) - An Orange County man has been acquitted of attempted murder for assaulting a police officer with a knife.

The Orange County Register reports (https://bit.ly/1nvC7w2) jurors also deadlocked on convicting 30-year-old Carlos Alberto Leon al Leon of aggravated assault on a peace officer and other counts.

Leon is accused of clashing with Tustin officers who responded after his brother reported he was making threats in April 2012.

Prosecutors say Leon threatened to kill the officers who came into the residence and slashed one of them on the face, neck and arm.

A key issue in the trial was whether police had the legal right to enter the house.

Prosecutors said they did, but defense attorneys argued they did not.

Prosecutors haven’t determined whether to seek another trial for Leon.
