SEVERNA PARK, Md. (AP) - Anne Arundel County police say an officer was injured when he was dragged 40 feet trying to get the driver out of a car.

It happened about 9:45 a.m. Friday in Severna Park. Police say the officer was checking on a suspicious vehicle and was trying to get the driver out. Authorities say the driver drove away while the officer was holding onto the door.

Police say the officer was dragged about 40 feet before being knocked to the ground. Police say the driver intentionally hit the officer’s patrol vehicle while fleeing.

Officers say after a chase of several miles, the car crashed into another vehicle.

Twenty-five-year-old James William Snyder of Baltimore was arrested and charged with assault and numerous other offenses.

The officer suffered minor injuries and refused treatment.
