PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The chief of staff for Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee is stepping down.

The Democratic governor announced Friday that George Zainyeh (ZAYNE’-yuh) is leaving his position to pursue other, unspecified opportunities. Zainyeh joined the administration two years ago.

Chafee says Zainyeh brought strong leadership to the administration.

Zainyeh’s departure comes two weeks after Christine Hunsinger resigned as Chafee’s spokeswoman. Another top aide, Director of Administration Richard Licht, has applied for a vacancy on the Superior Court.

Chafee’s term will end in less than a year. He is not seeking re-election.
