LAURINBURG, N.C. (AP) - A legal group is asking a federal judge to prevent a housing agency from retaliating against eight women who say two employees demanded sex in exchange for help finding homes.
Legal Aid of North Carolina asked a judge Monday for a restraining order against Four-County Community Services.
Four-County receives funding from the federal government to manage the Section 8 program in seven North Carolina counties, helping low-income renters find housing from private landlords.
Legal Aid filed a lawsuit against the group in 2012, saying the employees demanded sexual favors in exchange for help.
But the new motion says the agency tried to terminate the Section 8 voucher against one of the women.
Legal Aid attorney Kelly Clarke says the agency is trying to scare the other women into keeping quiet.
