RENO, Nev. (AP) - A Sparks man has been arrested for allegedly writing fraudulent checks to local charities from bank accounts that were closed.
Washoe County Assistant District Attorney John Helzer says 43-year-old Scott Lyda was booked Monday on suspicion of obtaining money by false pretenses and drawing and passing checks without sufficient funds.
The charities included First Tee of Northern Nevada; Nevada Diabetes Association; For Kids Foundation; and Rotary Central Club.
Helzer says Lyda is being held in the Washoe County jail without bail because he violated his probation from a previous conviction for attempted grand larceny.
