MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) - Several Medford officials hope to raise enough money to build a half-size replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial wall.
The Mail-Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1tAIfsm ) that the group is seeking $250,000 for the project and will ask the city council for approval to build it in Veterans Park in south Medford.
The wall would be 250 feet long and 5 feet high. Like the original in Washington, it would have the names of the more than 58,000 Americans who died in the Vietnam War.
State Rep. Sal Esquivel of Medford says the memorial is part of a healing process for Vietnam veterans and for the public. Esquivel is working with Eli Matthews, a city council member, and Russ McBride, president of Southern Oregon Veterans Benefit, on the project.
