NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (AP) - A sales tax exemption approved last year for artwork has had its first test and results are mixed.

Organizers of the Wickford Art Festival included a note about the exemption of Rhode Island’s 7 percent sales tax on ID cards attached to each vendor’s canopy on Saturday.

The Providence Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1gE23RO ) that the initial message was mixed. Some people were unaware of the tax break and others suggested it will not make a big difference between deciding to buy artwork or not.

Mark Davido, a watercolorist from Port Ewen, New York, said no one was asking about the tax exemption.

Erin Walsh, a digital photo artist from Scituate, said she hasn’t seen an overwhelming number of people buying just because of the sales tax break.
