BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) - A southwestern Illinois man is accused of shooting a 7-year-old girl and four other people after an altercation.

The Belleville News-Democrat (https://bit.ly/1raTEgw ) reports that St. Clair County prosecutors have charged 20-year-old Zeric McKinney with five counts of aggravated battery with a firearm.

Police say all of the wounded, ages 7 to 28, survived. Authorities say the girl was shot in the buttocks, with the bullet breaking her pelvis. The other victims were wounded in the legs, back, foot and ankle.

Police say the victims were gathered July 5 outside an apartment complex when the gunfire took place.

An investigator says the shooting happened after an altercation between McKinney and another person that day.

Online court records don’t show whether McKinney has an attorney. He doesn’t have a listed telephone number.
