CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - A Casper woman has pleaded not guilty to a felony fraud charge alleging she exaggerated her son’s medical condition to collect thousands of dollars from the community.

The Casper Star-Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1sMrLfx ) that Krishelle Layton appeared in Natrona County District Court on Tuesday.

Prosecutors say Layton received about $7,000 from various fundraisers when word spread late last year about her son’s brain cancer.

Court records say Layton’s son, six-year-old Dorian Layton, does have a tumor on his brain. But prosecutors say Krishelle Layton gave the impression that the boy was near death even though the boy’s doctor had said he was improving and death was not imminent.
