WINONA LAKE, Ind. (AP) - Police in northern Indiana say a 10-year-old boy died after being hit by a pickup truck while riding a bicycle.

The Winona Lake Police Department says Kurt Engler of Winona Lake died Tuesday at an Indianapolis hospital where he was flown after being hit the night before.

The Times-Union of Warsaw reports (https://bit.ly/1p9PaRz) the truck driver and witnesses told police that the boy didn’t obey a stop sign and rode into the truck’s path in the town about 40 miles northwest of Fort Wayne. Police say an off-duty firefighter and police officer gave first aid to the boy before emergency crews arrived at the scene.
