GREENUP, Ky. (AP) - A former school custodian in eastern Kentucky has settled a federal racial discrimination lawsuit against a school district, but won’t get his job back as part of the deal.
The Independent reported (https://bit.ly/1kbEzJX ) that one-time custodian David Parker reached the deal with Greenup County schools on Monday. The financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.
Parker’s suit had demanded $300,000.
Parker later claimed the racial mistreatment recommenced in the 2009 school year, and during that year, maintenance director Jack McCleese began claiming problems with his work performance.
Parker claimed white custodians were not reprimanded for similar performance issues.
He filed a discrimination complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in 2010 and a month later was told he would not be rehired for the following school year.
