WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, Vt. (AP) - A man being held without bail after pleading not guilty to attempted murder and other charges in a Vermont shooting is accused of writing a letter in jail to a co-defendant in the case.

Leon Jiggetts of Newark, New Jersey, was charged in connection with the June 11 shooting. Police say he shot a Springfield man during a drug dispute.

The Valley News reports (https://bit.ly/1oalbMN) a few days later, a correctional officer intercepted a note written by Jiggetts that officers believe was intended to be passed to co-defendant Jabbar Chandler. The note says people involved need to change their stories and keep them consistent. It also said the note should be ripped up and flushed after it is read.

Jiggetts pleaded not guilty to obstruction of justice on Tuesday.
