RAYMOND, N.H. (AP) - State police say a 56-year-old man has drowned in a lake in Raymond.

They say the man was swimming and attempting to retrieve his canoe, which had been blown from the shoreline of Governors Lake, on Saturday. They say he began to struggle in the water. A witness saw him, swam out and brought the man back to shore, where CPR was performed.

The man was pronounced dead at Exeter Hospital. His name isn’t being released until his family has been notified.

The drowning is under investigation. Police say alcohol and foul play aren’t believed to be factors.

Governors Lake is 61 acres and has an average depth of about 6 feet.
