STATESVILLE, N.C. (AP) - It took firefighters two tries to put out a blaze at a lumberyard in Statesville.

The fire at the Godfrey Lumber Co. started Thursday evening. Firefighters say they fought the blaze for four hours and thought they had extinguished it.

But authorities say the fire reignited around 6 a.m. Friday and it took several more hours to put it out again. Firefighters brought in heavy equipment to removing the siding of the lumberyard building to make sure all the hot spots were out.

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries.

Statesville Fire Department Battalion Chief Andy Weatherman says there was a thunderstorm in the area when the fire started and lightning is being investigated as a possible cause of the blaze.
