CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - A veteran state administrator is Gov. Brian Sandoval’s new chief of staff.
Department of Health and Human Services chief Mike Willden will replace Gerald Gardner, who has resigned to join a Malaysian conglomerate that wants to build a $4 billion Asian-themed resort on the Las Vegas Strip.
Willden served under three governors as director of the state’s largest department since 2001. The department accounts for nearly one-third of the state budget and has more than 5,000 employees.
Sandoval, in a statement, says Willden will bring knowledge and experience in state government and budget management.
Willden, who worked at the Department of Health and Human Services for nearly 40 years, begins the new job Monday.
Former Division of Welfare and Supportive Services chief Romaine Gilliland will replace Willden.
