MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (AP) - Visitors to the USS Yorktown on Charleston Harbor can now get a sense of what the crew galley was like.
A new living history exhibit provides a glimpse of the galley of the World War II-era aircraft carrier that served more than 7,500 meals a day to 2,500 sailors and airmen.
The exhibit has been put together with the help of a $12,500 foundation grant.
The new exhibit has sound effects, food replicas and mannequins.
The Yorktown is berthed at the Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum in Mount Pleasant.
Last year, the museum unveiled plans to spend up to $5 million to upgrade exhibits on the Yorktown using everything from holograms to computers.
