JACKSON, Mich. (AP) - A Michigan woman has been sentenced to 10 to 15 years in prison for the death of her 9-month-old son.

The Jackson Citizen Patriot reports (https://bit.ly/UQiwNo ) Jackson County Circuit Court Judge Thomas Wilson told 33-year-old Amber Murphy on Thursday that she “got away with murder” in the death of Seth Murphy. She didn’t comment in court before learning her punishment.

Murphy plead no contest to manslaughter in May, just days before she was to stand trial on open murder and child abuse charges.

Doctors testified that Seth suffered severe swelling and bleeding on or in his brain and retinal hemorrhages. Other testimony said the boy was hit in the head with a bat. Cause of death was listed as blunt force trauma to the head. He died Aug. 28, 2009.
