DETROIT (AP) - The Detroit Derby Girls are taking it outside.

The Girls are teaming with Eastern Market to put on an exhibition bout Sunday behind Shed 3. Detroit Derby Girls skaters and volunteers are to play in a mixed scrimmage.

There’s no charge to spectators, who are encouraged to bring their own folding chairs.

Some may remember roller derby from when it was popular in the 1970s. The current version is a more competitive, athletic sport than the theatrical version of the past.

The Detroit Derby Girls league is comprised of five intra-league home teams and three travel teams that compete at local, regional and international levels.
