RENO, Nev. (AP) - A federal judge in Reno has ordered a five-year prison sentence for a former NV Energy computer technician convicted of soliciting a minor for sex in exchange for a laptop computer.
Judge Robert C. Jones also ordered 41-year-old Shane Bateman of Sparks on Monday to serve 10 years’ probation upon his free release from prison.
Bateman was arrested in Reno in November after a 16-year-old girl disclosed the incident to a Reno detective working the Street Enforcement Team.
Police say the girl provided a phone number for the man she called “Laptop Guy” to a detective, who then posed as another underage girl willing to make a similar arrangement to meet at a Motel 6 along Interstate 80.
