ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Authorities have released the name of a suspect in the death of his cellmate at the Spring Creek Correctional Center.
A Department of Corrections spokeswoman on Monday said 25-year-old Jason Rak had a physical altercation with his cellmate, who later died at a Seward hospital.
Alaska State Troopers say 29-year-old Elihu Gillespie suffered the fatal injuries in an early Sunday morning fight.
KTUU reports (https://is.gd/0ykbTS ) Rak has not yet been charged. Troopers say since he’s already incarcerated, there is no rush to file charges.
Rak last December assaulted another inmate, 48-year-old Forrest Ahvakana. The Anchorage television station reported troopers recommended charges, but records don’t show the state filed any in that case.
Gillespie was serving a sentence for second-degree murder. Rak is in jail for an attempted murder conviction.
