MIAMI (AP) - Several Florida nonprofits are joining educators to pressure Tallahassee lawmakers to support bills that would allow in-state tuition for all qualified Florida students, even those in the country illegally.

On Saturday, the groups will discuss the issue at Miami Dade College’s Wolfson campus. Among those turning out are the Spanish American League Against Discrimination, the League of United Latin American Citizens and Women Voters of Florida. Representatives from Barry University School of Law and the Ana G. Mendez University System will also participate, as will student immigrant advocates.

The event is organized through the nonprofit Zambrano Foundation, which seeks to promote social programs to empower disenfranchised communities to strengthen democracy, economic development and arts and culture.
