HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) - Hillsboro police are investigating a Washington County animal control officer over a dog beating incident earlier this week.

Hillsboro resident Marlin Starr told police that his 9-year-old dog “Dojie” sustained a severe eye injury after being struck Tuesday by animal control officer Hoyt Stepp.

KGW reports (https://bit.ly/1dK06jE ) the officer said the dog was dangerous and aggressive and he was forced to use his baton.



Investigators will determine whether any criminal animal abuse occurred.

The incident started when residents in Starr’s neighborhood called animal control because dogs were barking in the street. Starr, who was not at home, said his dog got out of his fenced yard.

Washington County animal services said in a statement it “does not tolerate animal abuse in any form” and is reviewing the incident.
