DOVER, Del. (AP) - James Daniel scored 22 points as Howard snapped a five-game losing streak with a 55-53 victory over Delaware State on Saturday afternoon.

Howard (7-22, 5-9 Mid-Eastern Athletic) led 24-20 at the half and pushed the lead to 10 with 13 minutes left to play following back-to-back 3’s from Daniel.

The Hornets (9-19, 5-10) slowly closed the gap, pulling within five points, 45-40, with 7:25 remaining. Casey Walker made two free throws to get the Hornets within one with 51 seconds left to play. Walker missed a deep 3-point attempt with 7 seconds remaining to close out Senior Day and the final home game for Delaware State.

Walker finished with 12 points to lead the Hornets and Kendall Gray added 13 rebounds. Delaware State had won five of its last six games before falling to Howard on Saturday.
