PONTIAC, Ill. (AP) - Authorities say a pedestrian died in central Illinois after being struck by an Amtrak train heading to St. Louis.

Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari says Sunday evening’s collision took place in Pontiac when the train from Chicago hit a trespasser who was on the tracks.

None of the 233 passengers on board the train were injured.

The (Bloomington) Pantagraph reports an autopsy is expected later Monday. The pedestrian’s name, age and gender haven’t yet been released. And investigators haven’t said why they were on the tracks.

Magliari says the tracks are owned and operated by Union Pacific.

Pontiac is about 50 miles northeast of Peoria.
