LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury is hosting three town hall meetings this month to discuss several items on the April 5 ballot, including a sales tax to fund sewer expansion and two parish-wide property tax renewals.

The American Press reports (https://bit.ly/1eOXZNb ) the first meeting is Tuesday. The second is March 17 and the third is March 24.

Parish officials will discuss a 20-year, quarter-cent sales tax that would help fund a $110 million plan to expand sewer service in unincorporated areas. Services would be extended into south Lake Charles, Moss Bluff and Carlyss, along with areas surrounding Sulphur, Westlake, Iowa, Vinton and DeQuincy.

If approved, the current road and garbage tax that is levied within the parish, except the Moss Bluff and Gillis areas, would be lowered by a quarter cent.
