ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - A driver died Tuesday in a rollover crash on a rural road southeast of Eagle River.

Anchorage police say 47-year-old Russell James of Eagle River died in the crash of his pickup about a mile from the Eagle River Nature Center.

Police say James may have lost control of the truck on icy roads at the intersection of two side streets off Eagle River Road.

The pickup left the roadway and rolled down an embankment.

Witnesses and first responders found James alive but unconscious. He was having trouble breathing and was pronounced dead at 7:30 a.m. by medics.
