LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas Highway Commission members have met to discuss the problems the agency faced when a winter storm left roads icy and motorists stranded for hours on ice interstates in eastern Arkansas.

Highway and Transportation Department Scott Bennett said Tuesday the department plans to purchase 12 heavy-duty snow plows in the next two years for ice and snow removal. He says money raised from selling the department’s older equipment in auctions will be used to buy those plows to add to the six the department currently has.

The winter storm that dumped heavy sleet on the state stranded motorists on Interstates 55 and 50 in the eastern part of the state.
