SENATOBIA, Miss. (AP) - Northwest Mississippi Community College will begin a transition program this fall to make it easier for licensed practical nurses to become registered nurses through the school’s Associate Degree of Nursing program.

Under the program, applicants who are accepted after meeting certain criteria will be able to enroll in an intensive, eight-week summer course that will cover content offered at the freshman level in the ADN program. The idea is that after completing the summer course, the students should be on par with first-semester sophomore students and able to complete the ADN program in two semesters.

Dr. Ellen Williams, dean of the Division of Nursing, tells The Commercial Appeal (https://bit.ly/1i2ze2C ) ) admission is limited this summer because the program is new.
