NEW YORK (AP) - The American Red Cross is on the scene of an explosion in northern Manhattan.

The organization has disaster responders on site, including mental health professionals. An assistance center has been opened at P.S. 57, on 115th Street between Lexington and Third avenues.

By early afternoon, about 50 people were at the center. They were a mix of people who lived in the affected buildings and area, as well as people looking for loved ones.

The explosion leveled two buildings at Park Avenue and 116th Street, killing two people and injuring 18 others. Some people are missing.
