CRYSTAL FALLS, Mich. (AP) - An Upper Peninsula high school player headed for Michigan State University in the fall has been named the 2014 Miss Basketball for Michigan.

The Detroit Free Press and the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan announced Wednesday that the honor goes to Lexi Gussert of Forest Park High School in Crystal Falls.

Gussert is a 6-foot forward. She’s leading Forest Park to the Breslin Center in Est Lansing this week for the Class D state semifinals after a 69-56 victory over Posen on Tuesday night.

Forest park faces Athens at 7:50 p.m. on Thursday.

Gussert has 2,593 career points, fourth-most in state history and the most-ever in the Upper Peninsula. She’s averaging 29.4 points this season.

She also Michigan Associated Press Class D Player of the Year for the second-straight season.
