RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Lake Taylor pulled away with a game-ending 6-0 run and beat William Fleming 57-50 to win the Virginia High School League’s 4A girls state championship on Thursday night.
Joanne Williams had 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Titans (23-5), who won their third state title in five years. Endia McKinney added 14 points and 16 rebounds.
Antavia Stevens, Gracie Doane and Desree Keeling each scored 11 points for William Fleming (22-7). Keeling brought down 15 rebounds.
The Cavaliers committed 28 turnovers against Lake Taylor’s full-court press.
McKinney hit a 3-pointer as the buzzer sounded to end the third quarter, giving the Titans a 42-40 lead, and Lake Taylor never trailed again.
The Titans won despite making just 8 of 23 free throws (35 percent).
