NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - A northern New Jersey man has been convicted on charges of impersonating a sheriff’s officer.
The Essex County prosecutor’s department says 54 year-old Peter Repoli of Nutley was convicted on Thursday after a two-day trial in state Superior Court in Newark.
Prosecutors say last January Repoli told workers at Santini’s Pizzeria in Nutley that he was an Essex County sheriff’s officer.
Repoli allegedly flashed a badge and threatened to arrest the workers if they didn’t provide the address of someone he believed they knew.
Authorities say the workers became suspicious after Repoli got on a bus after leaving. They told police they had found convictions listed under his name on the internet.
Prosecutors say Repoli has 10 prior convictions. He faces 18 months in prison at his April 25 sentencing.
