BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) - Sturgis rode a 17-4 third quarter to a 39-33 win over Spearfish in a first-round game Thursday at the South Dakota Class AA girls basketball tournament.

The Scoopers (18-5) trailed 14-9 after two quarters but took the lead for good in the third quarter.

Lynsey Prosser had 16 points and eight rebounds and Kahlie Peterson had eight points and 14 rebounds for Sturgis, which has been runner-up three times at the state but never won it.

Kaitlyn Hinch led Spearfish (16-6) with nine points and 11 rebounds.

The Spartans shot just 20 percent from the field and 26 percent from three-point range.
