LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - A 67-year-old Texas man has been found was found guilty by a federal jury in Lafayette, La., of attempting to entice a minor to engage in criminal sexual activity.
Following a two-day trial, U.S. Attorney Stephanie Finley says the jury found Elton Ray Jones, of Zavalla, Texas, guilty after deliberating one hour on Tuesday.
Finley says witness testimony and documents admitted into evidence convinced the jury that, from Sept. 11, 2012, to Oct. 17, 2012, Jones made contact with and chatted online with a law enforcement officer posing as a 14-year-old girl.
The Advertiser reports (https://bit.ly/PwGKcS ) Jones was arrested on Oct. 17, 2012, in Lafayette, where he planned to meet the girl.
